This 9-night itinerary provides an in-depth exploration of Kafue National Park, traversing from the secluded, predator-rich south to the magnificent, vast floodplains of the north. Since all travel logistics are handled in-house, the itinerary focuses on the unique features and activities available at each of the three camps.

Day 1- 4: Arrival at Nanzhila Plains Camp

Arrive via in-house road transfer (or charter flight to the airstrip) and transfer to Plains Camp. Settle in and enjoy lunch overlooking the dambo. Afternoon: Introductory game drive. Evening: Experience the camp’s signature night drive, focusing on nocturnal hunters and elusive species.

THE VIBE & SETTING

Plains Camp is a small, intimate bushcamp nestled on the fringes of a vast dambo (seasonal floodplain), surrounded by Jackalberry and Sausage trees. Known for its peace, tranquility, and secluded location in the quietest part of the Southern Kafue.

THE ACCOMMODATION

6 chalets. Chalets offer unobstructed views of the dambo and include indoor en-suite facilities with hot/cold showers, toilets, and double basins.

ACTIVITIES

Game drives (day and night), walking safaris.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Known as “The Place of Predators” and offers some of the best night drive sightings in Kafue (serval, genet, civet, owls, chameleons). Excellent variety of grassland species including roan, zebra, and wildebeest.

Day 4 – 7: Arrival at Nanzhila Lake Camp

Arrive at Lake Camp and settle into your tented chalet. Afternoon: Focus on the lake area. Game drive or seasonal boat cruise to observe hippo pods, crocodiles, and large herds of elephant and buffalo drinking along the water’s edge.

THE VIBE & SETTING

Lake Camp is stuated on the shoreline of the Lake Itezhi-tezhi, overlooking the Musa Riverbed although due to the drought, the river is currently dry). This location offers wide-open views and focuses on water-dependent wildlife. The tented chalets provide “Bushcamp Luxury.”

THE ACCOMMODATION

4 standard tented chalets and 1 family unit (max 12 guests). All are spacious, with comfortable beds, large en-suite bathrooms, and covered verandahs for mid-day viewing

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Higher density of mega herbivores (hippo, elephant, and buffalo) compared to the plains. The open shorelines attract immense numbers of antelope, leading to a concentrated “Predator Season” in the late dry months (Oct-Dec) with consistent sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog. Opportunities for fishing (seasonal).

ACTIVITIES

Game drives, walking safaris, seasonal boat activities/fishing.

Day 7 – 10 : Arrival at Kasonso Busanga Camp

Arrive by road or via charter flight at the Busanga Airstrip, followed by a game drive transfer (10 minutes) to Kasonso Busanga Camp. Afternoon: Introductory game drive onto the vast plains, focusing on the endemic Red Lechwe, often seen in herds of hundreds or thousands.

THE VIBE & SETTING

Kasonso is an authentic bushcamp located centrally in the prime game viewing area of the iconic Busanga Plains. The landscape is a magnificent seasonal wetland of vast, open floodplains dotted with fig tree islands.

THE ACCOMMODATION

4 classic safari tents (max 8 guests). Each tent has an en-suite bathroom and a verandah overlooking the plains. The central boma offers a bar and comfortable seating.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Considered the best wildlife viewing area in Kafue. Famous for incredible Lion encounters (often seen hunting or relaxing on the islands). Large numbers of Red Lechwe, which thrive in the plains. Excellent sightings of buffalo, elephant, wildebeest, and relaxed roan antelope. Superb birding diversity.

ACTIVITIES

Game drives, walking safaris, birding excursions.

Travel Logistics for this safari package

All of your road tansfers will be handled inhouse. On Day 1, our team will meet you from the airport and drive you to where you will spend your first 3 nights. We will be with you for the duration of your stay until you have to be back at the airport on your day of departure.

FLY-IN options to Hippo Airstrip (45min from KRL) or Busanga Airstrip (10 min from Kasonso) are also available.
